Thaipusam, The Spiritual Festival

A Malaysian Hindu devotee takes part in a cleansing ritual before his pilgrimage to the sacred Batu Caves temple during Thaipusam in Kuala Lumpur January 30, 2010.

Thousands of Hindu devotee carries a kavadi and pal kodam (milk) in a pot during Thaipusam festival. Thaipusam is a festival celebrated by the Tamil community worldwide on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai. The festival commemorates the birthday of Lord Murugan, the youngest son of Shiva, and the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a vel (lance) so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman. Hindu community comprises over eight percent of Malaysia’s 28 million populations.

Malaysia’s former Deputy Prime Minister and the de facto opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim delivers his speech during ‘Anwar On Trial’ roadtour in Selangor, Malaysia, January 24, 2010.  Anwar, 63, is charged with sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 24, at a condominium in Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur on June 26, 2008. The trial is fixed to be heard on Feb 2nd 2010.

Asian Red-cheeked Squirrel

The Asian Red-cheeked Squirrel (Dremomys rufigenis) is a species of rodent in the Sciuridae family. It is found in Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
